The Ebb and Flow of Giving and Receiving

Over 40 million people have lost their jobs here in the United States this year. People are losing their homes and finding themselves having food insecurity. These people are stuck in the ebb and flow of giving and receiving cycle through the universal law of cause and effect. When we are stuck in this cycle, we watch every penny we have. We not only get stuck in the flow of giving and receiving, we get stuck in survival mode. I know, I went down that road back in the 1970s. During that time, we experienced a deep recession as a nation. I was forced to gather pop bottles just to feed my kids. It wasn’t pretty and very humbling.

Everything changed for me, when a woman saw how much I was struggling literally gave me her sweater off her back so I could be warm. She looked into my eyes and said to me, “I think this sweater looks better on you than on me.” Later I found out her family was worse off than mine. I will always remember how much gratitude and love I felt in that moment of giving and receiving, it immediately made me want to give to someone else. That life experience taught me a really huge life lesson, how one act of kindness can change perception and how perception creates reality. If you feel you are just surviving in life that is what the Universe will give you back. If you feel like giving something away to make someone else happy the Universe will give you back more happiness. I know it doesn’t look like it now if you are struggling, it really is about choice. From there on out I learned how to manifest and direct my destiny aligned with my dreams. I can actually say I am living the dream even in this pandemic and economic crisis. Why? Because I still have my creativity!

If you find yourself in a hard place right now, give something away. It doesn’t have to be money, it could be a smile, a good deed, a compliment, or love. When we stop giving, the universe stops giving to us. This ebb and flow I have been talking about is your energy circulation of giving and receiving. If it gets stuck you become stagnant. It is part of your life force. Another example: your blood also holds your life force, if the flow of your blood stops, the blood coagulates and life becomes yucky. As you can see, it is really important to get your life force flowing again.

Usually, if your giving cycle is stuck so is your receiving cycle stuck. Hence, your next step is to open yourself up to receiving. I can hear you say, “yeah, and how do I do that?” It is really easy using a hand mudra. I have talked about hand mudras before in my blogs. For those who are just joining in, for thousands of years in many different traditions as a way of awakening the divine within, mudras are used as tools to free up energy and redirect it to where you need it. There are different hand mudras for different energy blocks. Hand mudras flip the circuit breaker, allowing the energy to flow again. Then it is up to you to give gratitude to keep it flowing.

How to do the Lotus hand mudra for opening you up to divine flow again?

Sit cross-legged (or in a seated position where you feel comfortable) bring the base of the palms together at the heart center touching the thumbs and pinky fingers together. Spread the rest of the fingers out like the lotus flower opening toward the sunlight. Hold this position for five minutes, pause for five minutes then repeat the cycle for a total of 5 cycles. Do this 5 days in a row.

Then sit back and allow the opportunities to come to you. However, it is your job to take action on these opportunities. Always remember true prosperity and abundance comes from within through the act of giving and receiving.

Community Spirit Equals Love

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” – Margaret J.

Community is neither the community center nor is it the neighborhood you live in, nor is it the church you go to. Community is the collective of people who congregate within the community center, the neighborhood, and the church, etc., who hold the same values, who have trust for one another, and hold the same goals. Being part of a community gives us a sense of belonging. When we feel a sense of belonging it helps us manage stress better. When we become part of community we often times feel more secure.

When we connect to a loving community not only do we feel secure, we are more likely to perform random acts of kindness for one another. Random acts of kindness stimulate the production of the hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is best known for its role in feelings of love and social bonding. New studies also suggest it’s involved in feelings of spirituality as well.

The benefits of oxytocin are numerous:

  • It helps people to live longer
  • It is stress relieving
  • It limits the release of cortisol
  • Helps you feel connected to a higher power
  • Brings meaning to one’s life
  • Moods become more stable and brings an overall feelings of wellness
  • It’s the hormone mothers produce when they breastfeed. This hormone helps in the bonding between mother and the baby.
  • It can help you find love, intimacy, and trust
  • It helps with calmness
  • It stimulates uterine contraction in childbirth
  • It helps boost sexual arousal
  • It helps improve social skills
  • It can trigger protective instincts
  • It helps you to get a good night sleep
  • It helps in reducing pain
  • It increases the ability to heal
  • You become more inclined to see things more optimistically
  • Helps relieve depression

To me, the community is where ever your heart is.

Magic of 12/12/2020

December certainly holds a lot of magic for all of us. The holidays, the change of weather, and the anticipation of the New Year. We have said that to focus on numerology is to become aware of the subtle energies all around us. This December is a little different. The celestial bodies are not being so subtle. December 14 is a very noticeable total eclipse of the sun. Metaphysically speaking it is about facing your truth, embracing honesty. This leads us to a new point of view. Herein lies the subtlety. When we shift our point of view we trigger an expansion of our consciousness. This is what we are working toward.

A second brilliant occurrence is on 12/21. It is the grand conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. They will come within 0.1 degrees of each other and even be seen within the same telescope. Together they appear to create the largest star in the sky. This was the phenomenon also known as the star of Bethlehem. It will be the closest these heavenly bodies have been since 1623 and not this close again for another 500 years.

Saturn’s energy brings in planning, focus and structure, while Jupiter energizes growth. Together they are illuminating our vision. Our dreams become real to us. Especially when the dream is about bringing positive meaningful change to the world around us.

SO NOW BACK TO THE MAGIC OF OUR NUMBERS.

12/12/2020 When we add the 1+2, we get 3. The sequence appears as 3/3/2020. further the 2+0 =2. So the sequence now appears as 3/3/22. The 33 is a master number as well as 22. So on that day, we witness two masters numbers along with the 00 representing unlimited potential. 3 is all about communication, 2 is about relationships and uniting duality. If we go one step further and add the digits of 12/12/2020, we get 40+6 =46, 4+6=10, 1+0=1. One represents a new beginning. So just another reminder, December has additional days that resonate with this frequency. They are 12/03/2020, 12/12/2020, 12/21/2020 ( the grand conjunction and the first day of Winter) and 12/30/2020. All of these days hold the magic of creation, the new beginning.

So here is how I read the numbers from right to left. The days resonate to our highest potential for creating a structure and the function ( 2020) of our heartfelt dream for communicating on a master level for a new beginning for the collective consciousness of humanity. This resonance is in alignment with the celestial phenomena we are experiencing. It is all creating the possibility for our participation. This is no longer subtle. It is our time to be noticed for the greater good. Yahoo people! “Just do it”. Grab the gusto! Go for it!

Thanksgiving / Gratitude

Gratitude is an essential ingredient in one’s prosperity and abundance. When we express thankfulness, or appreciation we nurture the good fortune coming our way. We can also affect our sense of self worth when we acknowledge what we have set in motion. It is through our intentions that we initiate a successful outcome to our intended creation. This feels really good to us and even better when we say thank you, thank you, thank you.

So here’s a challenge for all of us. There are times when something very difficult comes our way. Some hardship, perhaps, or an illness. We as masters, in this physical body have the opportunity to be grateful for the chance to grow and expand our awareness. It happens when we stand up to the challenge presented to us. It may be that we become more compassionate, understanding and even self-empowered. We need to remind ourselves to be grateful for what has come our way. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It is the goal of Wholistic International Network to nurture each other. Together we create wellbeing and community. To learn more go to https://www.wholisticinternationalnetwork.com

W.I.N. is a Win-Win

Most people would agree with me, this year emphasized the importance of connection and relationship. For many people, it was a time of complete isolation away from family and friends. Sometimes we don’t know how much people mean to us until we can’t be with them. If that wasn’t bad enough millions of people lost their jobs and their medical coverage.

My grandma always told me when one door closes another door opens. Maybe that job you had was or still is, just a job to make money. Maybe it is time to manifest a job making money while doing what you love. The universe is giving you time to self-reflect and re-adjust to a new way of life. Wholistic International Network is a great community of like-minded practitioners whose goal is to help you through this transitional process by creating a circle of support both personally and professionally. We are here to help empower you and help promote your work. Maybe you are just trying to find an alternative way to support your family’s wellness. We are here to support this too. We have a team of practitioners that send out each day, ten – minute long-distance healing to our members if they request it.

Are you looking for new training in the holistic field? We have that too. Maybe you have a product, event, or online courses that you would like to advertise? Our platform is great to get you noticed all over the world.

Our blog is a great resource of wisdom.

Getting Grounded in Vata Season

Vata season… what is that all about?

Vata is a word that comes from Ayurveda, a system of holistic healing rooted in the same 5000 year old Vedic tradition as yoga. Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences, pathways to optimal wellness of body, mind and spirit.

Ayurveda 101 – “The sacred knowledge of life.”
1. Ayurveda teaches us to see the world and ourselves in relationship to five elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether (space).

2. Ayurveda identifies 20 qualities (gunas), arranged in 10 pairs of opposites that describe every substance or experience. They help us understand the Ayurvedic foundational principle of like increases like and opposites balance.
• heavy – light
• slow (dull) -sharp (penetrating)
• cold – hot
• oily – dry
• smooth – rough
• dense – liquid
• soft – hard
• stable – mobile
• gross – subtle
• cloudy (sticky) – clear

3. Ayurveda’s three doshas: vata, pitta and kapha, define characteristics of a complex combination of the five elements and twenty qualities. All three doshas are present in every person, but the unique ratio of each determines our individual constitution. Once we understand our unique constitution, we can identify strengths and weaknesses, and use this information as a blueprint to practices that promote optimal health.

It’s Vata Season!
Seasons are also associated with doshic qualities. Autumn is vata time, the transitional, unsettled period between the lightness of summer and the heaviness of winter. Characterized by an increase in cooler temps, dryness (think of leaves) and wind, autumn brings a substantial increase in the vata elements of air and ether, and the vata qualities of dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile, clear.

Meaning… you just might be feeling a little unsettled this time of year, particularly if you have a vata-dominate constitution. As the elements of vata are elevated in our environment, so too can they be elevated in our minds and bodies, causing imbalance. Symptoms of aggravated vata might include anxiety, fear, poor digestion, dry skin and lips, a scattered mind, little or no appetite.

So how do we get grounded in vata season? Simply balance the opposites! Replace vata’s dry, light, cold, rough and mobile qualities with wet, heavy, warm, smooth and stable qualities in your lifestyle choices. No exercise required.

Some Simple Solutions
Establish a daily routine. Consistent bedtimes, wake times and meal times create stability, grounding the vata quality of mobility.

Rethink your food choices to include vata balancing qualities of heavy, moist, sweet and warm. Opt for foods that are in season, such as squash, sweet potatoes and root vegetables like beets and carrots. Include sweet grains like basmati rice or brown rice, and warming spices like ginger, cinnamon and black pepper. High quality oils such as ghee or sesame oil counter vata’s dry and light qualities. Replace salads and raw veggies with stews and casseroles; cold drinks with a warm alternative. And just as important, take time to sit, relax, and enjoy your nourishing meal.

Slow down and pamper yourself. What you choose to do is up to you, but consistency counts. Designate a time, maybe it’s daily, weekly or monthly, to indulge in a massage, a bubble bath, time alone, or a good read.

Create a little Hygee (pronounced hoo-ga, the Danish term for cozy contentment and well-being), in your home environment. Bring out the fuzzy socks and wrap yourself in a warm blanket. Cuddle up in front of a fire and sip a mug of hot coco. Softness and warmth balance the cold, rough qualities of vata.

Fresh air works wonders. Go outside and play, take a walk, take a hike, or just breathe deeply in the great outdoors. Connecting with the earth and just being in nature has grounding qualities.

Now is the time to take advantage of vata’s glorious attributes of movement and expansion as you explore and create simple lifestyle changes that support you. Get grounded and be well!

It’s Time to Heal our Division

Before we can heal our cultural division in our country, we have to first understand what divides us.

The United States was founded on the ideals of diversity, freedom of speech, and religious freedom. People came to this country for all kinds of reasons. One reason stands out the most and that is to live the American dream of being free! Can I ask how many of you feel free?

The very thing that the American dream is built upon is diversity and it is the diversity that divides us. Everyone in our life is a mirror of who we are and/or the potential of who we can become. What happens when two people of different cultures move into the same community, what do the mirrors look like? Once we see someone different from our self in our everyday life it scares us on a subconscious level. We become afraid we will lose our own identity and become the minority. Once the fears come into play, we only see what divides us not what unites us.

Deep in the unconscious mind of humanity lies a deeper fear. How many of you are starting to think of your legacy? How many of you fear that once you die, you will soon be forgotten? This is the real root cause of the fear of losing your identity. Humanity allows this fear to drive them throughout most of their life. This underline fear not only is the driver of your conscious mind it also takes you off your path of finding your divine purpose in life.

We are coming to a time when time appears to be running out. Everything around us appears to be going in a downward spiral. It is time to make a choice! It still isn’t too late. Our true freedom of the American dream is that we have the freedom to choose. We can choose to do nothing or we can consciously choose to take life in another direction, to loving, harmonious life, by accepting our differences and finding what unites us. The next time you run into your neighbor that is different than you, instead off falling back into the old pattern of thinking, give them a big huge warm smile. It could make all the difference in the world, both literally and figuratively!

It takes courage to change our thinking patterns of what we think about our self and others. You can always find a helping hand at https://www.wholisticinternationalnetwork.com/. Wholistic International Network is a community of like-minded practitioners whose goal is to create a circle of support both personally and professionally.

Halloween vs. colors of Fall

Full disclosure, I just do not get the fuss over Halloween. I am not talkin’ about all the spiritual and religious connections to this time of year. For instance, I understand the importance of ” The day of the Dead” and the celebration of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. There are so many beautiful ways to acknowledge those who have passed and their significance to us. They all matter deeply.

What I am talking about here is the need to scare the ” daylights out of children” and me for instance. I DO NOT LIKE TO BE SCARED. What is the point of it? I am sure I have some karma with it. Well, let me explain. As a young teen, I was in the habit of breaking rules. O.K. I admit it was a problem. One crisp fall evening, “me and the guys” snuck into the local theatre, thanks to our friend the ticket taker, to see a movie our parents said no to. The owner of the show looked the other way ‘cus he knew how much popcorn and candy we were going to buy. The movie was about Zombies. My parents were right, I was very wrong and here I am, many many full moons later and it was not a good decision for a sensitive, impressionable kid. Now here is the kicker for me. We had to walk home in the dark, past the church, and down the hill. That wasn’t so bad but the church was surrounded on three sides, by a very large cemetery that came right up to the street. The sidewalk was across the street with a huge dark, dense hedge with zombie-like branches reaching out across the walkway. There were only a few streetlights between the church and our front yard. We lived one property away from the cemetery. The choice was grim. We all walked in the street until one of the guys started to run and ” holy crap” it was a chain reaction. I never ran so fast and for so long. We ran non stop til’ we got to the top of the street in front of my house. There, under the streetlight, I finally caught my breath. Nowadays, I can see how Halloween triggers all those childhood memories. I don’t like the costumes, the blood, the skeletons. Forget it. If you can. Leave it alone.

Here’s my new idea. Using techniques I learned in Sonic Reiki, I intend to work on releasing the karma I created with my parents and forgive myself for traumatizing the young teenager within me. I plan to practice a new healthy way to experience this time of year. You can consider this approach, if you wish, since you are probably free of the karma I talked about. This time of year is known for all the Fall colors. The changing of the leaves. Every color of the light spectrum can be seen in the foliage, along with the brilliance of the sky at sunrise and the awesome sunsets. We still see the deep greens of the evergreens and some of the large cultivated fields. It is known that the light waves we see, can trigger and stimulate the glands in our endocrine system and parts of our nervous system. This happens in a very subtle yet magically complex way. Many of us have a tradition of “going for a ride in the country to see the colors”. I truly feel that we intuitively know the importance of absorbing these light frequencies for our well being, physically and spiritually. Each one of our energy centers throughout our bodies, called chakras, has a color associated with it. These chakras are spinning wheels of energy. For example, our heart, in the center of our chest, resonates with the color green. The base of our spine is the root colored red. The colors go in order from our tail bone to the crown of our head. It goes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

My goal is to shift the focus from something scary to the beautiful effect these autumn colors have on our well- being and health. For those who need to go trick or treating, please be kind and choose costumes like Snow White and the seven dwarves, or Glinda the Good witch. I think you get my gist. No Zombies, please. Happy Halloween and drives into the country, Tom

Have You Lost a Loved One to Suicide

Their pain is gone and yours has just begun

On a hot summer day, when I was twelve years old, my grandmother sat me down on a porch swing in our backyard near the garage. She took my hand, with tears running down her cheeks, she went on to tell me, “Your great grandfather took his life in our garage.” I asked her, “how did he do it”? She said to me, “he hung himself.” My great grandfather took his life twenty years earlier and yet her pain was so deep it was as if he had died yesterday. I remembered how I was lost for words. How awful I felt that I didn’t know how to comfort her.

With all that is going on in our world suicide takes a backstage and yet what is going on in the world is increasingly adding to people’s depression. In many cultures it is taboo to talk about it. Here are some facts about suicide:

  • Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. for all ages
  • Every day, approximately 123 Americans die by suicide (CDC)
  • There is one death by suicide in the U.S. every 12 minutes
  • Depression affect 20 – 25% of Americans ages 18 + in a given year (CDC)
  • Suicide takes the lives of over 48,300 Americans every year (CDC)
  • The highest suicide rates in the U.S. are among, Whites, American Original People, and Alaska Natives
  • Only half of all Americans experiencing an episode of major depression receive treatment (NAMI)
  • 80% – 90% of people that seek treatment for depression are treated successfully using therapy and/or medication (TADS study)
  • An estimated quarter million people each year become suicide survivors (AAS)
  • There is one suicide for every estimated 25 attempts (CDC)
  • There is one suicide for every estimated 4 suicide attempts in the elderly (CDC)

Losing someone you love to suicide is a different kind of grief then when you lose some one you love to natural causes. When someone you love dies from natural causes it is easier to remember the good times. When you lose someone from suicide it is the end of their life you keep remembering. It plays over and over in your mind. You get stuck in the emotions of “what if,” “should have,” “would of” mode. Not only are you dealing with the grief, you feel guilt, shame and anger. Please seek professional help if you feel you are stuck in this kind of thinking after losing a loved one to suicide.

Here is an easy hand mudra that helps with releasing guilt, shame and anger and it is said it can also give you peace of mind. It is called Abhaya Hridaya. Bring your hands to prayer position. Start with crossing your wrists in front of your heart. Now turn your hands over so the backs of your hands are together. Wrap your right index finger around the left index finger. Then your right middle finger around your left middle finger (skipping your ring finger) then wrap your right pinky finger around your left pinky finger and lastly bring the finger tips of your ring finger and thumb together (both left hand and right hand). Hold this position for 20 minutes each day for 10 days.

Earlier I mentioned I wished I knew how to comfort my Grandmother on that hot summer day so long ago. I felt helpless that day when I didn’t know how to comfort her. So, as an adult, I turned helplessness into comfort by becoming a Co-Founder of WIN (Wholistic International Network) WIN is community of like-minded holistic practitioners whose goal is to create a circle of support and healing.
