April, 2023, Springtime, hopefully. This has been a very weird season, weatherwise, as well as astrologically. March Equinox brought in a great deal of change and the wind was just one example of stormy developments. They are still going on and the beginning of April gives us a slight respite before we get into eclipse energy on the 19th.
April is the fourth month and the number 4 is all about structure. It also directs us to the heart chakra, breath, lungs, pericardium, thymus and of course Love. There are many examples of the power and importance of love. Musicians, all around the world sing about love, Jesus’ core message was about love and the Beatles insist over and over again that “all you need is love”. I happen to truly believe in the power of Love. The heart holds the structure for manifesting love yet it is the spiritual aspect of love that needs to be noticed, at this time.
Last week, on a beautiful road trip, Linda and I were walking past a charming gift shop in the magical village of Shelbourne Falls, Massachusetts in the Berkshires. What a powerful and interesting place. The rocks looked like we were on the Moon, except it had water crashing over the falls and under the bridge. (Full disclosure, Linda’s photos made mine look like I was in beginners’ 101). However, I noticed a book in the window of this shop. We both went “Wow, what is that?” It was the only copy she had and that was the only gift we purchased. You all know by now, that Linda’s primary healing work is called Sonic Reiki, so sound is key to what we do. The book we purchased is “The Songs of Trees” by David George Haskell. Each chapter is devoted to a unique tree from around the world and the sonic quality found within each one. I love when someone or something shifts my point of view in some radical way. This book has done that and I have only started to read it.
The tree is gigantic and extends way beyond the height of the rest of the forest canopy. There is so much to say about the tree, and its’ place in the forest but I am focused on the description of the relationship of the natives to this tree. The tribe he was in contact with are known as the Waorani, who live in and around the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve. The tribe, in their own words “ live like one”. They describe plants, not as a single plant, but its relationship to the whole. Everything is part of everything. The Ceibo is their “tree of life”. If you get separated from the others, you go to the tree and pound on the root to signal your whereabouts and the sound allows you to reconnect to the whole. If one were to get separated from the whole at night, death would be imminent. When the author reached out to a longtime researcher and forest guide to understand the people, he said that western peoples would not understand how the people live since we hardly have words to describe the spirit by which the Waorani live.
Everything in the Amazon has a sound. The trees hear the rain, the leaves sound a certain way, the insects make their own unique sound and everything and everyone is connected sonically. The guide says that the tribe knows that their history is recorded in a sound imprint ( my paraphrase) on their genetic memory. What I gather from the reading is that we in the west don’t have an example of this kind of “oneness”. In the tribe, men and women and children can be seen as individuals but their real identity is in the wholeness. Our idea of “rugged individual” is like a suicide to the Waorani. The guide was asked to describe the spirituality of the group and he tries to explain, T IS ALL SPIRIT. There is no separation between material and sprit. He says ”Knowledge is relationship; belonging is spiritual knowledge”.
So here I am, seeing the connection between the structure of the heart and the expanded consciousness afforded by embracing the “ONENESS”. The spirit found in the Amazon jungle, can be seen in the family, the group, the team,….. on and on ‘til we see the Oneness found in the Universal energy we are all connected to.
On April 19th we will experience a New Moon Total Solar Eclipse. Since it is in Aries, it is all about “new Beginnings”. It is commonly perceived that eclipses bring transformations. This particular one is magnified by being in Aries and can signify a burst of energy for your soul’s journey. Eclipse energy can be felt for a month before and a month after.
Heads up on APRIL 11th. The Sun and Jupiter are in alignment and this portends to be a very lucky day. This luck can be aligned with this eclipse transformative energy and we need to pay attention. I certainly felt lucky, in the “pre- eclipse” energy when we found the book.
The book helped me see that the structure of the heart and the oneness experienced by the natives in the Amazon are very closely aligned. When I continued to read further in the book about the oil companies cutting huge access roads into the forest my spirit seemed to plummet. However, much like the Waorani, I needed to carry on. We can do our best to shift the oil companies focus but the modern world, the modern culture is lusting for this oil.
I give thanks, today, for the huge insight given by these magnificent people, by their strength and commitment, and belief in the “oneness” they know. What if by being open to David George Haskell’s research, the Waorani gave humanity a glimpse into another possible dimension?
Humanity is a giant fabric, woven with all the strands of our experiences. When we are open to the magic of the eclipses and the reality of a faraway tribe of people, we expand the depth and texture of our weaving. What we do in little increments is recorded and all of humanity is blessed by our effort.

4/5 The Sun conjunct Chiron. the asteroid. It is considered the wounded healer. We are shown that we can look at our wounds experienced throughout our life and realize that is who we are and accept them. The asteroid’s energy is to show us how to heal and gain compassion for ourself and others. We learn and expand our consciousness by honestly embracing the wound and continue living life to the fullest.
4/6 Libra Full Moon. Its brightness reveals insights and powerful healing energy for relationships.
4/11 Besides what we already observed, above, about Jupiter, Venus enters Gemini. This brings a balance to the masculine and the feminine, between the physical and the spiritual and opens up our intuition .
4/20Sun Squares Pluto. At this time the Sun is in Taurus and Pluto in Aquarius will create a square in the cosmic sky. Pluto is the planet of transformation and Aquarius is about revolution. Huge changes are possible in a positive way, both technologically and socially.
Once again this is a very significant time in our universe. The potential for growth and conscious evolution is at hand and we need to pay attention and celebrate our good fortune.
