Full disclosure, I just do not get the fuss over Halloween. I am not talkin’ about all the spiritual and religious connections to this time of year. For instance, I understand the importance of ” The day of the Dead” and the celebration of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. There are so many beautiful ways to acknowledge those who have passed and their significance to us. They all matter deeply.
What I am talking about here is the need to scare the ” daylights out of children” and me for instance. I DO NOT LIKE TO BE SCARED. What is the point of it? I am sure I have some karma with it. Well, let me explain. As a young teen, I was in the habit of breaking rules. O.K. I admit it was a problem. One crisp fall evening, “me and the guys” snuck into the local theatre, thanks to our friend the ticket taker, to see a movie our parents said no to. The owner of the show looked the other way ‘cus he knew how much popcorn and candy we were going to buy. The movie was about Zombies. My parents were right, I was very wrong and here I am, many many full moons later and it was not a good decision for a sensitive, impressionable kid. Now here is the kicker for me. We had to walk home in the dark, past the church, and down the hill. That wasn’t so bad but the church was surrounded on three sides, by a very large cemetery that came right up to the street. The sidewalk was across the street with a huge dark, dense hedge with zombie-like branches reaching out across the walkway. There were only a few streetlights between the church and our front yard. We lived one property away from the cemetery. The choice was grim. We all walked in the street until one of the guys started to run and ” holy crap” it was a chain reaction. I never ran so fast and for so long. We ran non stop til’ we got to the top of the street in front of my house. There, under the streetlight, I finally caught my breath. Nowadays, I can see how Halloween triggers all those childhood memories. I don’t like the costumes, the blood, the skeletons. Forget it. If you can. Leave it alone.
Here’s my new idea. Using techniques I learned in Sonic Reiki, I intend to work on releasing the karma I created with my parents and forgive myself for traumatizing the young teenager within me. I plan to practice a new healthy way to experience this time of year. You can consider this approach, if you wish, since you are probably free of the karma I talked about. This time of year is known for all the Fall colors. The changing of the leaves. Every color of the light spectrum can be seen in the foliage, along with the brilliance of the sky at sunrise and the awesome sunsets. We still see the deep greens of the evergreens and some of the large cultivated fields. It is known that the light waves we see, can trigger and stimulate the glands in our endocrine system and parts of our nervous system. This happens in a very subtle yet magically complex way. Many of us have a tradition of “going for a ride in the country to see the colors”. I truly feel that we intuitively know the importance of absorbing these light frequencies for our well being, physically and spiritually. Each one of our energy centers throughout our bodies, called chakras, has a color associated with it. These chakras are spinning wheels of energy. For example, our heart, in the center of our chest, resonates with the color green. The base of our spine is the root colored red. The colors go in order from our tail bone to the crown of our head. It goes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
My goal is to shift the focus from something scary to the beautiful effect these autumn colors have on our well- being and health. For those who need to go trick or treating, please be kind and choose costumes like Snow White and the seven dwarves, or Glinda the Good witch. I think you get my gist. No Zombies, please. Happy Halloween and drives into the country, Tom
